Grab a brush and join in the fun! This workshop is all about painting. We will use acrylic, tempera and watercolor paints to create beautiful pictures. We will paint on a wide variety of material. Students will work on guided projects that teach fundamental painting techniques. Supplies are included in the cost.
Brickapalooza (grades 2-5) August 10-14, 9:30-12:30
This fun-filled camp will have a different theme each day! Campers will use our special Bricks 4 Kidz® LEGO® Brick kits to build motorized and non-motorized models. Have a blast in our Super Hero Training Academy, learn all the ninja moves of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, become a Pokemon master, jump into the world of the Mario Brothers and learn about the life of a pirate! The camp day is full of games, crafts and building challenges. Each camper will receive a Bricks 4 Kidz® t-shirt and build a custom LEGO® mini-figure to take home at the end of the week.

This session is an opportunity for aspiring writers to explore various genres of writing and to improve their skills. Students will choose from among various genres to create original pieces of writing, including memoirs, poems, narratives, and essays.

A sewing class for beginners introduces children to sewing. They will use their own sewing machines as well as a needle and thread to create simple things made using fabric, including potholders, place mats, mini-quilts and purses.

Actually, don’t quit! We just wanted a catchy title. This session is for those sewers who have basic skills and want to learn how to piece together various fabrics to make a quilt. Classes will include instruction on planning, selecting fabric, tricks-of-the-trade, and choosing the right borders and backing for the quilt.
Boys’ Book Club (grades 3-5) choice of July 13, 15, 20, 22, or August 11, 13, 18, 20, 5:30-6:30
After our great success last summer, we are again offering a boys’ book club. We will read and discuss a popular chapter book that we provide. The club will meet for an hour twice a week for two weeks. Students will discuss characters, setting, plot, use of language, etc.

After our great success last summer, we are again offering a girls’ book club. We will read and discuss a popular chapter book that we provide. The club will meet for an hour twice a week for two weeks. Students will discuss characters, setting, plot, use of language, etc.

Girls and boys create lap-sized quilt using math for sequencing and measurements. No previous sewing experience needed. Sewing machine in good working order is the only equipment you will need, or pay a modest rental fee to use our sewing machines.
Spanish is Fun (grades 3-5) choice of July 27-30, or August 17-20, 9:30-11:30
Enjoy an introduction to the Spanish language using culture, music, history, food, and crafts. Learn everyday phrases, colors, numbers, months, days of the week, and much more. This class will get students engaged in speaking with each other to practice.

On the one hand, mathematics can be tedious and difficult to understand. On the other hand, it can be interesting and fun. This session will introduce students to new ways to think about math—especially when used for problem solving. Given problems to solve and mysteries to unravel, students will put into practice math skills they are expected to master at various grade levels.
Calligraphy and Penmanship (grades 4-7) July 20-23, 9:30-11:30
Some say cursive writing is a thing of the past due to texting and emailing. We disagree! This one-week session will help students improve both their block and cursive writing. We will also introduce the concept of calligraphy as an art form.
Mythical Beings (grades 5-7) June 23-26, 1:00-3:00
What makes mythical creatures—whether people or animals—so intriguing? Students will select four mythical beings from a list of hundreds and explain their nature—their appearance, special powers, and country of origin. They will illustrate and write about their creatures and discuss their findings with other children.

All levels of experience are welcome, and individualized instruction will be provided to meet each student’s skill level. If you are a beginner, we’ll start with the fundamentals using pencils, pen and ink, and colored pencil technique through guided lessons. If you already have experience with drawing and/or painting, class instruction will be adapted to fit your needs. Experienced artists should bring a project to class each day. Most supplies included. Students are encouraged to bring a 9 x 12 sketch book to class.
Copy That! (advanced writers, grades 6-8) July 13-16, 9:30-11:30
Charles Caleb Colton stated in 1820 that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. We can learn how to write in a more appealing way by studying and—in part—mimicking the masters. Advanced writers will analyze what made writers great, then use excerpts from their works as models to improve their writing.
College Prep (grades 11-12) June 23-25, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
This session will be comprised of an overview of the SAT & ACT and college entrance essay writing. It will also include information about college selection and financial aid opportunities.
Hunt and Peck, NOT: Introduction to Typing (all ages) August 24-27, 1:00-3:00
Want to learn the invaluable skill of touch typing using the standard QWERTY keyboard? This course will introduce you a program that will can increase your typing rate and accuracy dramatically. The instructor will serve to set you up on a program, motivate you, and monitor your progress.
Championship Chess: (grades 2-5) July 20-23, 12:30-2:30 p.m.
This session presents a systematic, fun way to build chess skills during chess instruction and while students play. Studies show that chess improves math, reading and problem-solving, and our methods connect these academic benefits to our classes. Classes include instruction as well as chess play and guided analysis. Championship Chess Instructors utilize a complete curriculum introducing chess skills to beginners incrementally and improving players’ skills and strategies in the opening, middle and endgame. Each player will receive a chess workbook for their appropriate level of play. (Students younger than rising second graders may join if they already know how to play.)
